The main reason of Baki Öğün's choice of the site was to investigate ancient Carian language through archaeological investigations and epigraphical documents upon solving the problem to answer whether until the beginning of the 4th Century BC Caria and Lycia hold their own hinterlands. Last 20 years of excavations has not only answered these questions but also provided immense information on Anatolian archaeology.
