Antalya Museum
The Antalya Museum was established in 1919 by Suleyman Fikri Erten, a teacher who rescued many artifacts that had been looted by occupying forces following World War I. It was first housed in the Alaaddin Mosque in old town (Kaleici), then the Fluted Minaret Mosque and, in 1972 it was moved to its present location. The Museum today covers an area of 30.000 square meters and consists of 14 main exhibition halls, open display galleries and a large garden containing some fine statues and other artifacts.

GÖRÜLMESI GEREKENLER
Antalya is one of the richest historical regions of Anatolia that has witnessed the continuous history of humanity. The three ancient regions that the Antalya Museum is responsible for include the big parts of Pamphylia, Lycia and Pisidia.
Antalya is also an open-air museum with its archeological richness and the international excavation center. Many excavations and researches have been carried out in the area. Most of the rescue excavations in the region and the environmental arrangement have been performed by the curators of the museum. The Antalya Museum is archaeology and history museum and also a region museum. Most of the works come from the systematic excavations carried out in the region. The ethnographical objects again from the region have been collected by the experts.
In the halls can be seen the remains of early mankind followed by the thousands of years of human history which continued uninterrupted on Antalya's fertile soil, mostly displayed chronologically but sometimes didactically.
The Antalya Museum is among the leading museums of the world; on account of its sculpture works belonging to the Roman period especially from Perge and unique artifacts found during the rescue exactions of the museum. The Museum received a special award from the Council of Europe in 1988, which nominated Antalya Museum the "Museum of the Year".
